StickCard: Your Personal 3D-Printed Card Holder

Discover StickCard - an innovative and functional accessory that you can easily create with your 3D printer. This custom solution combines minimalist design with practical functionality, making it perfect for smartphones, tablets, and more.

With its compact dimensions of 97.6 mm x 62.6 mm x 4.40 mm, the card holder is designed to securely hold two cards in the ISO Standard 7810 ID-1 format (85.6 mm x 53.98 mm x 0.76 mm). Its stepped design ensures that the cards are firmly stacked and protected from scratches. The card holder can be easily and securely attached to almost any surface using double-sided adhesive tape.

No more rummaging for important cards in daily stress - StickCard provides quick and uncomplicated access to your essential cards like season tickets, debit cards, or business cards. Not only attachable to smartphones but also in cars or on notebooks, StickCard keeps, for instance, your driver's license always at hand.

The sleek design seamlessly integrates into your life, and its size makes StickCard a practical, yet inconspicuous companion. StickCard is more than just a card holder – it's an expression of your creativity and style, packaged in a practical and stylish accessory.

Warning: Please be aware that using StickCard near strong magnets, like those in MagSafe-enabled devices (e.g., iPhone) from Apple, can damage the magnetic strips of credit cards or other cards with magnetic stripes. I recommend not placing cards with magnetic stripes directly on the back of such a device to avoid potential demagnetization or damage to the cards.

Structure of the STL Files

StickCard consists of two parts, which you will receive as separate STL files. Both parts are designed to fit seamlessly together, forming a sturdy, durable unit.

This model or these models are available under the CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 license for your personal, non-commercial use. You need to credit me as the creator, and you can't use the model or models commercially, modify them, or create and distribute derived works. This license applies to both the digital model and the physical prints.

Filament and Printing Settings

Filament

For printing your StickCard, filaments like ABS, ASA, PA6, or PC are particularly suitable. These filaments offer a mix of properties that make them ideal for robust, durable, and functional objects like the card holder. Here are some of their common benefits:

PLA and PETG are not recommended for StickCard as they do not offer the same heat resistance and mechanical strength. Especially PLA can deform at higher temperatures, such as in a car or direct sunlight, affecting the functionality and structure of the card holder.

Slicer Printing Settings

The printing settings provided here are designed for a 0.4-mm nozzle and a layer height of 0.2 mm. You can easily find these settings in most common slicing programs like Cura, PrusaSlicer, or BambuStudio/OrcaSlicer.

For a perfect print result, I recommend aligning the parts in the slicer exactly as shown in the attached image. This ensures that each part retains its optimal shape and stability.

Additional Notes

Pay special attention to the seam position when printing StickCard. It is crucial to set the seam position to “aligned”. This setting ensures that the seam is relocated to a specially designed sacrificial notch in the StickCard's design. This design trick helps effectively hide the seam and prevents disruptions in the appearance and functionality of the card holder. For correct alignment of the seam, please refer to the attached image that shows where the seam should ideally be positioned.

Depending on the chosen material, it may additionally be necessary to print a brim. This helps to improve the adhesion of the parts to the build plate and prevent warping.

Assembly

To assemble your StickCard, follow the steps shown in the attached animation. The two separate parts that you have printed should fit together seamlessly. After you have joined the two parts, attach the StickCard to the desired surface using double-sided adhesive tape.
